These digital, self-grading task cards are a thorough, well-planned way to build categorization skills. There are five different ways to work on categories and sorting, and these differentiated levels make it easy to scaffold and build upon skills.

Categories are a foundation for how we learn, relate, store, and recall words. Categorization is important in language because it allows us to group our thoughts, process information, store and retrieve ideas, and describe items!

Target category concepts with these interactive, self-grading cards for teletherapy, at-home learning, or in-person therapy sessions. Perfect for teaching these concepts in repetitive, consistent activities that keep kids engaged. Designed specifically to target these foundational categorization skills!

✅ WHAT’S INCLUDED

A home page with 5 sections:
Each section has 20 questions for a total of 100 questions.
Includes multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, and drag-and-drop features.

Strategies used to target categorization skills in this resource:

  • CONVERGENT NAMING: Choose the correct category out of a field of 3 when given pictures.
  • DIVERGENT NAMING: List 3 items in a given category.
  • WHAT DOESN’T BELONG: Find the picture that doesn’t belong in a field of 4 and discuss why. Find the word that doesn’t belong in a field of 4 and discuss why.
  • WHAT GOES TOGETHER: Find 2 pictures that go together in a field of 4 and discuss why. Find the 2 words that go together in a field of 4 and discuss why.
  • SORTING TASKS: Sort 6 pictures into 2 groups.

WHAT ARE BOOM CARDS?

Boom Cards are digital task cards that you play on the Boom Learning website. They are easy and fun to use!

  • No printing, cutting, laminating
  • Interactive
  • Self-grading
  • Use with internet-connected devices: computers, tablets, Smartboards
  • Data tracking with a paid subscription

You will receive a link to the task cards on the Boom Learning website when you download this resource. You will be asked to sign in to your account or create a free account. All purchased decks can be found in your Library. Boom Cards are accessed and used on the Boom Learning website. There is no need to download, save, or print.

To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires. Use this resource on a tablet, computer, or Smartboard!
