✅ WHAT’S INCLUDED (color and black & white)
- 12 emotions cards to discuss typical body language and facial expressions associated with an emotion
- 24 picture cards with thought bubbles
- Pre-made examples for each thought bubble to use for matching
- 1 page answer key for pre-made thought bubbles to pictures
- 2 full-page thought bubbles to mount on popsicle sticks and use in role-play
A NO PRINT version is included. You can use this resource on your device without printing or assembling! Open in an annotation app or Adobe Reader.
➡️ DIRECTIONS
Cut out the 24 cards and pre-made thought bubbles. Laminate if desired for durability.
Present the picture card and ask:
- What are they thinking?
- What are they feeling?
Follow-up questions:
- What might they say?
- What could you ask them?
To play with increased support, present a picture card and a field of pre-made thought bubbles and have the student match the correct thought to the correct person.
Print the big thought bubbles on card stock, then mount them on a popsicle stick. Practice the same concept – only on real people! The clinician or student holds up the thought bubble to their head, and the other player identifies the emotion or thoughts as a result of facial expressions or actions.
Be sure to look at the preview to see what’s included!

This is an awesome social language packet. I’ve used it with all my kids from PK to 5th grade. For PK I used the pictures to elicit sentences. Older kids have to state what they were thinking and how do you know they are thinking that. I printed out and laminated the whole pages and the thought bubble answers to use in therapy. It was great to have the choice of the thought bubbles to scaffold the activity. I sent home the pages with six panels and the parents were easily able to understand what was expected. For some kids I sent home the thought bubbles, but others, I only sent home the pictures. Love this!!!

Lisa G. –
This is an excellent resource for targeting perspective, think or say it, generating convseration.
TaLyna Sandine –
The pictures have enough detail so that the kids really have to look at the pictures to infer the meaning of what is pictured. (grandmother’s face showing that she is being squeezed, not just hugged). It is easy to level, e.g., not showing the thought bubble with answers or giving a choice of thoughts, etc.
I printed this out, laminated the pages and put into a notebook. This made it so easy to flip to each page. I then used double-sided tape on the ‘bubbles’. (no velcro any more!).
Caitlin –
I looooooooove this material! It was great for my basic social skills groups and my students had a blast coming up with some silly thoughts for the pictures after our initial lesson..
