Description
Want a fun way to work on making inferences and critical thinking skills in speech therapy and the classroom? Great for early inferencing skills in preschool and kindergarten.
This motivating inference activity can also be used for who questions, categories, pronouns, expanding sentences, and WH questions. Use this for individual speech sessions, group sessions, or with your whole class. You can easily differentiate this resource to meet a wide range of students and abilities.
Use the iPhone visual supports to guess who is calling!
✅ WHAT’S INCLUDED
- 54 phones with community helpers/characters/animals
- 54 phones with the call made from each individual
A NO PRINT version is included. You can use this resource on your device without printing or assembling! Open in a free annotation app or Adobe Reader.
WAYS TO USE:
Select the Picture: Give your student a group of phone pictures. Read a phone call card and have them select the correct picture of who called.
Matching Game: Select a number of pairs to play with. Lay the cards face down with the picture cards grouped and the phone call cards grouped. With each turn, select one picture card and one call card, trying to find a match (the call made from the individual.) Continue taking turns until all cards are matched. The player with the most matches wins.
Auditory: Test auditory listening and inferencing skills without visual aids by only using the phone call cards.
Role Play: Target conversation and appropriate topics by having the student select a picture card and begin an appropriate conversation as if they are that individual. Or make it a higher-functioning task, in which you or another student doesn’t know the character they picked and must guess who they are from the conversation they start.
Black & white version is included for an ink-saving option.
SLPS AND EDUCATORS LIKE YOU SAID…
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐“My kindergarten students had a blast guessing who was at the door using their inferencing skills. We did this whole group but the activities could easily be used in a small group or with individual students.”
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐“I used this product with students working on who and inferencing questions. I used the print version to provide visual choices for my students. It allows for a wide range of supports (if needed) to work with students who have different needs.”
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐“The resource is BEAUTIFUL and my students LOVED answering the questions, anticipating each new question eagerly. I was able to use it as part of several sessions because there were so many! Each one was challenging enough to not feel easy and had enough content that I could use the ‘cards’ to target a variety of goals. A+ :)”
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐“This is such a cute activity that my students have loved! They were inspired to create some of their own cards after playing. This resource can be expanded upon in so many ways (EET, speech sounds, etc).”

1st graders LOVED this activity and so did I!!!! The little info did not confuse the students and it was very neat!

I am planning a Community Helpers unit for my push-in lessons in my 8:1:1 supported learning class. I’m thinking I will use this activity one card at a time to introduce the “helper” that we’re working on during that session. I can envision that I’ll use the other characters/animals in other activities in the future as well.

I loved that this product provides a variety of complexities when it comes to targeting inferencing. For my older students, you can use it as a matching game. Overall, great product!
