15 Children’s Books about Cleft Lip and Palate

I have a cleft-affected daughter, so I have begun to pay more attention to books addressing craniofacial differences. I put them all in one easy place!

There are a lot of great children’s books out there that discuss cleft lip and palate. Representation of differences matters. It goes a long way to have students feel represented and teach and give children an understanding of those different from them!

These children’s books are great for children born with craniofacial differences to learn about themselves and instill confidence. It is also for teaching and bringing awareness to other children about cleft lip and palate.

  1. Hi, Our Cleft and Craniofacial Team recently came across a list you created of cleft and craniofacial related books/ storybooks. We purchased the books and are creating a library in our clinic for parents & kids to preview the books when they visit us. Thanks for the list! We also had a suggestion for a book written and published by a 9 year old patient with cleft lip and palate about coming to cleft and craniofacial team. It is her perspective of what it is like to visit a multidisciplinary team and a great way for kids to know what to expect and prepare for a successful visit (with multiple providers). It is available on Amazon and called: Cleft and Craniofacial Team Days by Violet Ake. Hope you enjoy. Thanks for your work!!

  2. Hello. I love this list. I also wrote a book about having a cleft lip and palate. It’s called Princess Rylie and it’s available on Amazon. I would love if you could check it out. Thank you. 🙂
